1952 Plymouth in Geneva, Illinois

As I got out of my car after finding a nice spot at the Geneva Swedish Days, I  saw this car parked at the corner.  Having a chance to photograph this kind of vehicle in a non-car-show situation was peachy.  And the background was not too anachronistic as well.

"Please report to Human Resources"

This picture has been getting quite a few views in the last  4 years so consider this a "throwback Monday" kinda shot.

Alternate titles include:

"The executions will continue until morale improves."
"How can we in customer service help you?"

Aurora City Hall

Aurora City Hall

For most of you, this may not be a terribly exciting shot.  However, I really like it.  First of all, the building is beautiful.  Then there is the light, which is also beautiful.  And, Lightroom did a nice job of correcting some clear distortion problems in the original.

So, for most of you, this may be a boring city hall.  But for me, it's kinda above average.

D-Day - June 6, 1944

D-Day - June 6, 1944

I was working on a photographic project early this morning at Cantigny and they had their Higgens Boat (also known as a landing craft or LCVP) on display.  In the past, they've had a rope around it but today, for some reason, the barrier wasn't there.  This allowed for a better 3/4 shot.

---

The Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel (LCVP) or Higgins boat was a landing craft used extensively in amphibious landings in World War II. The craft was designed by Andrew Higgins based on boats made for operating in swamps and marshes. More than 20,000 were built, by Higgins Industries and licensees.

Typically constructed from plywood, this shallow-draft, barge-like boat could ferry a platoon-sized complement of 36 men to shore at 9 knots (17 km/h). Men generally entered the boat by climbing down a cargo net hung from the side of their troop transport; they exited by charging down the boat's bow ramp.

The Twenty Dollar Portrait

The Twenty Dollar Portrait

As I turned onto the street, I saw these two guys.  After chatting and shooting a few shots, I reached for my wallet to give them some money only to realize I only had twenties.  Bad planning on my part - I obviously couldn't ask them for change.  So I bestowed a double sawbuck on them.  I think I made their day. I'm sure that they took that money and purchased a delicious "lunch," but at least I can now pass by any panhandlers guilt-free for a few months.

New Albums on Flickr

Last week, I went on a long trip starting in New Orleans and finishing in St Louis before coming home to Chicago. There will be several sets, but here are two to start:

New Orleans

St. Louis Renaissance Faire

I'll be adding to these albums as time goes by (I'm a slow editor).  And I'll be adding a couple of more albums from this trip.

I'll be tweeting the additions (and facebooking), so you can keep up to date.
