Interesting that the photo on the state web page for this park is from almost the exact spot that this is. At least we have the same good taste.

Things I've learned from doing my first art show

Show out-of-season pictures. People like to see winter scenes in the summer, particularly on a sunny, hot day.

Trains!

Set up bins of prints by subject - a lot of people were interested in specific things

Set up a small catalog of most of my pictures in 4x6 so people could search my "catalog"

Set up a better sign about the photographer

Bookmarks!

Why I prefer digital

1. Film's free
2. Because film is free, I can take a LOT of pictures and not feel bad that I got only one successful picture out of 200. Because I had 199 opportunities to experiment.
3. I get instant feedback and can constantly experiment because, well, film is free. And I can see the result on the back of the camera.
4. No intermediate scanning, so I can go directly to the image and edit and manipulate as necessary.
5. I can change the ISO from picture to picture.

There you go. Digital rules.

"If they called it the Misery Slide, nobody would stand in line for it."

As Kate and I were walking past this, I kinda said, "Fun Slide" wistfully. She uttered the above line and then I had to take a picture. I had the caption, I needed the picture.

Long Line of Railroad Cars in Storage

Kate and I took a road trip out to the Mississippi River and found ourselves wandering around the edges of Savanna Army Depot. It looks like the site has been repurposed, at least a little, for rail car storage. They've pretty much used every piece of available track to store tank cars and hopper cars. And it kinda makes sense...relatively secure and in the middle of pretty much nowhere. Not a lot of guys with spray paint around.

Eastbound Union Pacific at Vail purty durned close to sunset

The last time I was in Tucson, I visited the Union Pacific crossover bridges near Vail (southwest of Tucson) and got skunked on trains. So this time, when I visited Tucson, I tried again. And got lucky.

This is the last one from this event that I'm posting. This was the best shot of the day for me. I waited until just before the sun went down, got this train, then called it a day.
