I did a quick survey today of my stats page on Flickr. Out of about 500 views that I got from Flickr, about 8 of them came from a group. And most of those were from the early pages. Only 2 of them came from deep in the group's pool.
So, I've been slashing the groups that I post to. Check this for yourself. Take a look at pictures that are posted to your groups and see how many views they're getting after a few days.
I'll post to these groups:
- a few topic oriented groups, like tanks and Tilley hats (I like tanks and Tilley hats)
- geographic groups like state, city and county groups
- groups that have healthy discussion activity
If you did get any activity from a group, it's when it's been posted recently. So my suggestion is to post to groups with a lot of discussions going on, and expect any views to come only when your picture is less than a few pages from the top of the pool.
