Snowdrops II

Snowdrops II, originally uploaded by Jim Frazier.

Snowdrop is the common name for members of the genus Galanthus, a small genus of about 20 species in the family Amaryllidaceae; snowdrops are among the first bulbs to bloom in spring, although certain species flower in late autumn and winter. Wikipedia

Chicago Flower and Garden Show

Kate and I took a trip down to the Chicago Flower and Garden Show on Sunday, 3/15/09

I enjoyed it much more than I expected since I had a VAL (voice activated lightstand) to hold my flash off camera, and a camera that takes much better shots at 800 and 1600 ISO.

Checklist of things to look at before you push the button

I'll probably come up with more of these, but these are the things that should be checked just before the button is pushed....

1. ISO

2. M/A/S/P setting

3. Autofocus on or off

4. Background. A trick I've heard is to sweep around the edge of the frame looking for extraneous stuff. Also, sweep around the subjects themselves looking for the aforementioned extraneous stuff.

5. Consider adjusting the aperture to deal with background - go low to blur background. Consider using a wide aperture lens, like a 50mm f1.4 (which I wish I had done for a couple of shots).

6. Is the speed fast enough to capture the action and to avoid shake if I'm using off tripod (even if ON the tripod in some situations?

7. Where is the focus point.

8. Any other mistakes?
