Michaelangelo's Deli in Geneva has a pepper and egg sandwich on Fridays. So I decided to indulge myself and pick one up to-go and head down to the Metra station for lunch and some trains. I wound up with one Metra (outbound) and two freights for my trouble, all in the course of 30 minutes.

I believe the tank car train stopped to block the intersection for the westbound. I have to believe this because after the westbound cleared the crossing, the tank car train proceeded about a quarter of a mile further down the track and stopped again.

Poudre Canyon

Poudre Canyon, originally uploaded by Jim Frazier.

The Poudre Canyon is a narrow verdant canyon, approximately 40 mi (64 km) long, on the upper Cache la Poudre River (called the "Poudre" for short, which locals pronounce as "Pooder") in Larimer County, Colorado in the United States. The canyon is a glacier-formed valley through the foothills of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains northwest of Fort Collins. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poudre_Canyon

When I was a kid, my Dad took a summer course at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. One of the places I remembered visiting was Poudre Canyon. So when I was doing a seminar here in June 2008, I visited the canyon ater the meeting. It was beautiful and like I remembered. Not bad for nostalgia.

Apartment for Rent

Apartment for Rent, originally uploaded by Jim Frazier.

I gotta get Kate out of her garden...she keeps finding cool stuff and claiming naming rights. If we're lucky, maybe it'll rain.

This is an abandoned cicada skin after the occupant molted and departed. Note the lack of wings.

A cicada is an insect of the order Homoptera, suborder Auchenorrhyncha, in the superfamily Cicadoidea, with large eyes wide apart on the head and usually transparent, well-veined wings. There are about 2,500 species of cicada around the globe, and many remain unclassified. Cicadas live in temperate to tropical climates where they are among the most widely recognized of all insects, mainly due to their large size and remarkable acoustic talents. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cicada (see the video about half way down the page).
