California Condor

California Condor, originally uploaded by jimfrazier.

We were surprised to find this guy sailing overhead as we were standing on the south rim near the El Tovar Hotel. Initially we thought this was a Turkey Vulture, but the plumage just didn't match up. Luckily, I snapped off several pictures, including this one, which showed what we had seen. I understand that the Condors are interested in people, so, while they've got the whole Grand Canyon to hang out in, the populated areas are where they tend to hang out. We couldn't tick it, but it was still neat to see.
